How to Get to Mu Ko Chang National Park #

Mu Ko Chang National Park (Ko Chang) is on Ko Chang island in Trat province. Most visitors reach the island via Trat: take a bus or drive from Bangkok to Trat (roughly 300 km by road), then continue to the Laem Ngop/Laem Ngob ferry piers on the mainland. Regular car and passenger ferries run from Laem Ngop (Ao Thammachat/Centrepoint piers) to Ko Chang (White Sand/Bang Bao areas); the ferry crossing typically takes about 30-45 minutes. Once on Ko Chang, use local songthaews, motorbike taxis or taxis to reach park beaches, trailheads and ranger stations.

Tips for Visiting Mu Ko Chang National Park #

  • Plan your visit in the dry season (roughly November-April) when seas are calmer and interior trails are easier to access, avoiding the monsoon months when many park services are reduced.
  • Most visitors arrive at Koh Chang by ferry from Trat (Laem Ngop pier); factor in the boat timetable when planning day trips and check with local operators for which piers they use that day.
  • To escape the busiest beaches around White Sand and Bang Bao, explore quieter northern or southern bays or hire a local longtail to reach smaller islands and snorkel sites inside the national park.
