Exploring the Samlaut Multiple Use Area#
The Samlaut Multiple Use Area is a protected zone of roughly 600 square kilometres covering nearly half of Pailin province, essentially all the land south of National Road 57 between Pailin and Battambang. It adjoins protected areas across the border in Thailand, and together these reserves shelter a range of wildlife, including gibbons, elephants and hornbills.
This is remote, roadless jungle, best visited on an organised tour arranged in advance; roads are in their best condition during the dry season, from December to April.
