How to Get to Mount Shasta City
Mount Shasta City is usually accessed by car from nearby regional airports (Redding RDD, Medford MFR) or by taking Amtrak to Dunsmuir and transferring by road. The area is rural, so plan for a rental car or a prearranged taxi/transfer for final miles.
Redding Municipal Airport (RDD): RDD is the closest airport with scheduled commercial service; driving from Redding to Mount Shasta City generally takes about 1.25-1.75 hours depending on route and traffic. Rental cars are the usual transfer option.
Medford‑Jackson County Airport (MFR): MFR in southern Oregon is another practical regional choice, also roughly 1.5-2 hours’ drive to Mount Shasta City. Both airports offer car rental services and regional connections.
Train: Amtrak’s Coast Starlight stops at Dunsmuir and, further north, at Redding depending on the schedule; Dunsmuir station is approximately a 25-40 minute drive south of Mount Shasta City. A taxi or local transfer from Dunsmuir is the normal way to reach Mount Shasta.
