Corning Travel Guide

Located in Steuben County, New York, Corning is a medium-sized town set on the banks of the Chemung River. The city has featured as one of the US’s top 25 small city arts destinations in American Style magazine, the last time in June 2007.

Corning has a long tradition of glass making and is home to the leading glass manufacturer Corning Inc. The town’s historical gaffer district is the best place to see this ancient tradition in an attractive, flourishing trade district with a long architectural heritage. The historic Market Street was restored after the devastating floods following Hurricane Agnes in 1972.

The largest collection of glass can be seen at the Corning Museum of Glass, featuring some 45,000 glass objects across 3,500 years of glassmaking history. There are science and technology exhibits, guided glassmaking demonstrations and visitors can take a hands-on approach during the daily workshops.
