Mount Lawu is a volcanic massif on the border of Central Java and East Java, Indonesia, and rises to roughly 3,265 metres. It is noted for both its natural environment and cultural-religious sites on its slopes.

Treks traverse forested lower slopes to higher alpine terrain, and visitors encounter temple complexes, pilgrimage sites, and mountain shrines as part of cultural tourism. The mountain’s trails and summit areas are used by hikers and by religious visitors following traditional rituals.

The mountain has long held spiritual significance in Javanese culture and the surrounding region, with historic Hindu-Buddhist temples established on its flanks during pre-modern periods. Over time the site has continued to function as a place of pilgrimage and local ritual.
