Mount Iraya is a stratovolcano on Batan Island in Batanes province in the northern Philippines, with a summit around 1,009 metres. It is classified as potentially active and dominates the island’s landscape.

Trails lead to the upper slopes and summit area, and the mountain is visible from other islands in the Batanes group; its slopes are covered by forest and agricultural land at lower elevations. The volcano is closely monitored by Philippine geological authorities for signs of activity.

Mount Iraya occupies the northern end of Batan Island in the Batanes archipelago, rising above coastal villages and serving as the island’s central high point.

How to Get to Mount Iraya #

Mount Iraya is on Batan Island in Batanes, northern Philippines. The usual way to reach Batan Island is by air: commercial flights operate from Manila to Basco (Basco Airport), Batanes’ main town. From Basco you can hire a local vehicle or join a guided transfer to trailheads on the island; local roads connect Basco with nearby villages and trailheads for Mount Iraya.

Because Batanes is small, road transfers from Basco to mount trailheads are short; hiking to the summit is done on foot from local trailheads and local guides are commonly used for safe navigation.
