Monti Volsini Mountains

The Monti Volsini are a volcanic mountain complex in northern Lazio, Italy, forming part of the Vulsini volcanic district. The range surrounds and contributes to the basin of Lake Bolsena, which occupies a volcanic caldera within the complex.

The area is characterised by volcanic soils that support vineyards and mixed woodland, and it contains archaeological sites related to the Etruscan period. The slopes and lake margin are used for agriculture, small towns and nature recreation.

Formed by volcanic activity, the Monti Volsini are a distinct geological and cultural landscape in the northern part of the Lazio region, near the province of Viterbo.
