Montauk Travel Guide

Montauk is a small town in Suffolk County, located on the easternmost tip of Long Island. Boasting no less than six state parks, it is particularly famous as a prime fishing and surfing destination. It also houses the largest commercial and recreational fishing fleet in New York State.

The town offers many attractions with its nearby beaches and championship golf courses. History buffs can explore the Montauk Point Lighthouse, from the top of which a spectacular view is on offer. Also called ‘The Living End’ or ‘The Last Resort’, Montauk has developed into one of the busiest tourist destinations in the town of East Hampton.

Especially popular in the warmer months, Montauk has a good selection of hotels and B&Bs. The high season is from April to November, after which many restaurants and lodgings close their doors until next spring. A refreshing aspect of Montauk town planning is that all chains and franchises, including hotels and restaurants, are banned.
