Middletown Travel Guide

Film buffs will know the town of Middletown in Delaware for its appearance in the 1989 movie Dead Poets Society, or rather for the use of St Andrew’s School as the chief setting for the greater part of the story. The same school was also used as a setting for an episode of the popular drama series The West Wing. Aside from this, Middleton is a fairly average small town with well preserved traditional architecture and a typical small town ambiance, assisted by a population of less than 10,000.

There’s not a great deal to do in Middletown and it’s certainly not a destination that you’d pencil in on a list of essential destinations to visit in Delaware. A couple of events in its annual calendar are worthy of mention and might make the town a place in which to enjoy a pleasant weekend break.

The Olde Tyme Peach Festival is the most notable yearly event and is a well attended affair with a parade taking place on Broad street and stalls and food vendors presenting festive offerings on Main street. Civil War reenactments are also a popular part of the proceedings.
