Off northwest Trinidad near Chaguaramas, Monos is a small island of mangroves, beaches and coastal paths. Boaters, anglers and day‑trip visitors come for calm bays, picnics and short coastal walks.
One of the small islands off the northwest coast of Trinidad, administratively within the Diego Martin region and among the group often referred to locally as the Bocas islands.
The island offers coastal scenery, small sandy or rocky beaches and sheltered bays used for short recreational visits. It is a local day-trip destination rather than a site with developed tourist infrastructure.
Like neighbouring islands, Monos has seen intermittent small-scale habitation and use for fisheries, small agriculture and leisure activities; its character is primarily natural rather than urban.
Lying in the Gulf of Paria off Trinidad’s northwest peninsula, the island sits near Chaguaramas and within boat distance of Port of Spain.

How to Get to Monos #
Monos is reached by private boat or charter from Chaguaramas and the western Carenage harbours of Port of Spain. There are no regular public ferry services to the island; private skippers and local boat operators run trips when seas are calm.
Tips for Visiting Monos #
- If visiting the Bocas Islands area, arrange private boat transport from Chaguaramas or Carenage; there is little or no scheduled public ferry service.
- Respect private property - some parts of Monos are occupied and private residences may be present.
- Bring insect repellent and sun protection; shorelines can be exposed without shade.
