Monastery of Saint Anthony

The Monastery of Saint Anthony is a Coptic Orthodox monastery in Egypt’s Eastern Desert, in the Red Sea Governorate, with origins dating back to the 4th century. It is one of the oldest Christian monastic communities and has been continuously inhabited by monks for many centuries.

The site contains ancient church spaces, monastic cells and collections of Coptic art and manuscripts that reflect its long religious history. It serves both as a living monastery and a destination for pilgrims and visitors interested in early Christian monasticism.
