Representative figures from each country's largest city. High / low are average daily temperatures (°C); “Feels” allows for humidity.
Palau & Yap (Palau; Yap State, FSM)
Early in the year the atmosphere is humid but stable; March often brings slightly higher humidity and occasional heavier showers as the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) edges closer. Diving visibility around Palau and Yap is usually excellent on calm days, and cultural events on Yap (traditional dances and yam festivals vary by island) may be staged when weather allows. Expect warm nights; mosquito repellent is a practical packing item for village visits and lowland walks.
Central Caroline Islands (Chuuk, Pohnpei & Kosrae - Federated States of Micronesia)
Humidity creeps upward in March as the region edges toward the wetter months; daytime temperatures remain around 28-30°C, and erratic showers become more common. Pohnpei’s high interior gets frequent rain and cloud, so on-island flights or mountain treks can be affected by slick trails and limited visibility. Recreational diving and snorkeling around Chuuk and Kosrae are still excellent between showers, but keep plans flexible for sudden squalls.
Mariana Islands (Guam & Northern Mariana Islands - Guam; Saipan, Tinian, Rota)
A brisk feel from the trades continues into March, when days are warm and breezy and the likelihood of heavy storms is low; Guam’s southern beaches and Saipan’s central plateau are pleasant for hikes. March can be a good time for outdoor events and exploring WWII sites without excessive humidity, though evenings may still feel muggy. Carry a hat and plenty of water for sunny day excursions in exposed coastal areas.
Marshall Islands (Majuro, Kwajalein, Bikini Atoll - Republic of the Marshall Islands)
February-to-March transition months show a slow rise in humidity and an increased chance of short squalls; March still tends to feel good for lagoon activities with sea temperatures in the high 20s °C. Atoll interiors remain low and exposed-sun protection is essential-and inter‑island travel is easier than in the height of the wet season. Pack a lightweight poncho and plan for occasional delays on charter flights to smaller atolls.
Kiribati (Gilbert Islands) & Nauru
March remains hot and humid with intermittent squalls; coastal wind is often light so the heat can feel oppressive on exposed atoll flats. Fishing and reef activities are accessible in calm windows but be cautious of the strong sun and limited shade; utilities and transport schedules may be irregular on smaller islands. Pack breathable clothing, a hat and water purification tablets for longer stays away from main hubs.
