How to Get to Metapán
Metapán is in western El Salvador (Santa Ana Department); visitors normally arrive via San Salvador (SAL) or by bus from Santa Ana and continue overland by bus, shuttle or private car. There is no active passenger rail service in the country.
Monseñor Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport (SAL): The main international airport serving El Salvador is San Salvador (SAL). To reach Metapán you typically travel overland from San Salvador - the road journey is about 2.5-4 hours depending on traffic and route. There are not regular commercial flights directly to Metapán.
Local airfields: There are no regular commercial airports in Metapán itself; regional air services are limited, so onward travel from SAL by bus, shuttle or rental car is the normal approach.
Train: El Salvador has no active national passenger rail service for intercity travel; rail is not an option for reaching Metapán.
Bus / Shuttle: Intercity buses and private shuttles run from San Salvador and Santa Ana to Metapán. From San Salvador, buses or shuttles to Santa Ana then onward to Metapán are common; total travel time from San Salvador is roughly 3-4 hours. Bus/shuttle fares are typically low (several US dollars); private shuttles cost more but are faster and more comfortable.
