Medamud is an archaeological site in Upper Egypt’s Luxor Governorate that preserves the remains of a temple complex dedicated to the war god Montu. The surviving remains include stone and mudbrick structures that reflect building phases from the Middle Kingdom, the New Kingdom and later periods.
Visitors to the site see foundations, reused blocks and portions of the temple plan that show the sequence of construction and enlargement across different pharaonic eras. Finds from the site illustrate local cult practice and the continuity of worship at Medamud over many centuries.
The temple complex at Medamud was used and modified across the Middle Kingdom and New Kingdom and continued to receive attention in later times, leaving a stratified archaeological record. Excavations and conservation work have exposed parts of the temple plan and architectural fragments for study and display.
Medamud lies in the Luxor Governorate in Upper Egypt on the east bank of the Nile in the general Luxor area, and it is reachable by road from the city of Luxor.

Medamud lies about 10-12 km northeast of Luxor. From Luxor, take a taxi or local minibus toward the village of Medinet Habu area and then follow local roads; travel time is approximately 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.
