Matayaya Travel Guide
City Village in San Juan Province, Dominican Republic
In San Juan’s interior, Matayaya draws travelers wanting rural Dominican life: coffee and cacao farms, river swimming holes, and simple eateries where home-cooked stews and plantain stand between you and the next dusty dirt road.
Why Visit Matayaya? #
Located in San Juan Province, Matayaya invites visitors into rural Dominican rhythms-coffee and cacao farms, fertile valleys and lively patronal fiestas featuring bachata and merengue. Local kitchens serve sancocho, fried plantains and fresh tropical fruit, and agricultural tours let travelers sample single-origin beans and meet smallholders. With modest guesthouses and community festivals, it’s a place for cultural immersion and farm-to-table encounters rather than mainstream beach tourism.
