How to Get to Duvergé
Duvergé is a small town in the southwest of the Dominican Republic; arrivals are normally by road from nearby regional airports or from Santo Domingo. The nearest airport is María Montez (Barahona); longer international flights arrive at Las Américas (Santo Domingo).
María Montez International Airport (BRX): The closest airport to Duvergé is María Montez in Barahona. A taxi from BRX to Duvergé typically takes about 1-1.5 hours; expect around 800-1,200 DOP for a private taxi. Local shared vans and regional buses from Barahona town to Duvergé cost much less (roughly 100-300 DOP) but run irregularly.
Las Américas International Airport (SDQ): Santo Domingo’s Las Américas is the main international gateway for the southwest of the country. Road transfers from SDQ to Duvergé take about 3.5-4.5 hours by car. Long-distance bus services from Santo Domingo to Barahona/Neiba are available (see bus card); a private transfer from SDQ to Duvergé will usually cost several thousand DOP depending on vehicle and stops.
Train: The Dominican Republic has no intercity passenger rail service; trains are not an option for reaching Duvergé.
Bus: Interprovincial buses and shared vans (guaguas) are the primary public option. From Barahona town or Neiba there are regional buses/minivans to Duvergé priced around 100-300 DOP and taking 30-90 minutes depending on the origin. From Santo Domingo you can take long-distance buses to Barahona/Neiba (3.5-5 hours, fares roughly 300-700 DOP) then change to local services for the final leg.
How to Get Around Duvergé #
Duvergé is compact and easy to walk; most shops and services sit within a short stroll of the main plaza. For trips beyond the centre locals use moto-taxis (motoconchos) and shared minibuses; rides inside town are inexpensive (a few dozen Dominican pesos) and regional buses to larger towns are affordable. If you need more flexibility, consider hiring a motorcycle or a private car for day trips. Carry sun protection and water - services and schedules can be limited outside business hours.
