Northern Malta (Mellieħa, St. Paul’s Bay, Golden Bay)
February still leans wet and cool, but there are sharp, clear days when the low winter sun lights up the cliffs at Golden Bay. Temperatures remain in the mid-teens and strong storms occasionally make ferries choppy, so boat trips to Comino or Gozo can be postponed; Carnival events (Valletta and Nadur on Gozo) add indoor options. Bring a breathable rain jacket and sturdy shoes - spring wildflowers begin to punctuate the scrub if you head inland between showers.
Central & Harbour Malta (Valletta, Sliema, St. Julian’s, Mdina)
February can be surprisingly bright between showers and carries the scent of fried sweet treats during Carnival; Valletta and Mdina have indoor exhibitions and quieter tourist sites. Temperatures are similar to January but occasional warm southerly bursts lift temperatures into the high teens for a day or two. Pack layers and an umbrella - the city’s narrow streets channel wind and sudden rain can make trampling cobbles slippery.
Southern & Southeast Malta (Marsaxlokk, Blue Grotto, Dingli Cliffs, Birżebbuġa)
February can alternate between calm, bright days perfect for cliff-top walks and short, intense storms that send spray across the coastal paths. Temperatures remain cool but can spike briefly with a warm southerly; this is still prime time for sampling Marsaxlokk’s weekend fish market under a fortified church backdrop. Bring windproof layers - the exposed headlands around the Blue Grotto can be gusty and muddy after rain.
Gozo & Comino (Victoria, Ramla Bay, Dwejra area, Blue Lagoon)
February often brings clear, crisp days ideal for exploring Gozo’s lanes and cliff paths, though rain showers remain frequent and nights are chilly. Nadur’s Carnival is a lively local spectacle unique to Gozo, offering indoor and sheltered street entertainment. Pack a warm mid-layer for evenings and waterproofs for sudden downpours when walking to remote spots like Ta’ Pinu.
