Northern Malta (Mellieħa, St. Paul’s Bay, Golden Bay)

August keeps the heat but often brings sultry evenings when temperatures only dip to the low twenties, making coastal terraces lively until late. Popular bays are busy and Blue Flag beaches have facilities but also queues for sunbeds and kiosks; nightlife around Sliema and St. Julian’s is at its loudest. Be mindful of sunscreen, keep to shaded routes inland, and anticipate traffic congestion and higher prices during the festa season.

Central & Harbour Malta (Valletta, Sliema, St. Julian’s, Mdina)

August keeps the oven-like heat and crowded city beaches - high humidity can make evenings feel sticky even with sea breezes. Splitting time between harbour promenades and island excursions is common, but be mindful that full ferries and busy attractions make advance booking essential. Nightlife peaks and village festas add to the noise and bustle; if you prefer quieter exploration, consider late September instead.

Southern & Southeast Malta (Marsaxlokk, Blue Grotto, Dingli Cliffs, Birżebbuġa)

August continues the pattern of high summer heat, with warm nights that keep bars and promenades active well into the early hours. Boat trips to sea caves and wreck dives operate at full pace, though sudden sirocco dust events can make the air hazy for a day or two. Travellers should accept busy coastal attractions, book dinners in advance, and be careful on exposed cliffs in the heat.

Gozo & Comino (Victoria, Ramla Bay, Dwejra area, Blue Lagoon)

August retains the heat and summer bustle; Comino’s Blue Lagoon can be extremely crowded during the day while evenings on Gozo quiet down in many villages. Sea temperatures are at their warmest, offering superb diving and snorkelling conditions, but occasional sirocco dust can reduce air clarity briefly. Carry water when walking inland, and reserve restaurants in advance during festa weekends.
