Malé & Kaafu Atoll (capital, nearby resort and local islands)
February keeps the clear, sun-drenched pattern going in the capital and nearby resort rings; humidity feels lower than later in the year though nights still stick to the high 20s Celsius. Sightseeing around Malé-the Friday Mosque, the fish market-works well before midday heat builds, and boat transfers run reliably. Book popular excursions and island-hopping well ahead, and bring reef-safe sunscreen: water visibility is excellent for snorkeling around Maafushi and the resort lagoons.
Northern Atolls (Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, Shaviyani, Noonu)
February continues the dry northeast monsoon pattern; skies are typically clear and the sea glassy between islands, making this a favorite time for long boat trips and fishing excursions. The northern atolls can feel slightly cooler on a breezy morning-perfect for cycling around local islands-and visibility for snorkeling is excellent. Because these atolls have fewer tourist beds, book inter-island transfers early in the season to secure space.
Central Atolls & Baa (Baa Atoll including Hanifaru Bay; Lhaviyani)
February continues the clear-water trend and steady northeast trade winds, with warm, pleasant days ideal for exploring Hanifaru’s marine life and for diving the channels of Lhaviyani. Whale sharks and mantas are regular targets for dive itineraries in nearby reserves at this time; surface conditions are generally excellent for snorkeling. With tourist numbers still high, reserve popular dive slots early and bring reef-safe sunscreen and protective rashguards for long boat days.
Ari Atoll & South-Central Atolls (Alifu and South Ari)
February stays warm with excellent underwater visibility and consistent sea conditions, prime for manta and whale-shark expeditions from islands like Maamigili and Dhigurah. Land-based activities such as fishing trips and sandbank picnics are very dependable, and the comfortable climate is good for families and photographers. Reserve popular long dives and day trips in advance; bring reef-safe sunscreen and a sunhat for the long boat decks.
Southern Atolls (Vaavu, Laamu, Gaafu, Addu and Fuvahmulah)
February sees steady dry conditions and comfortable days ideal for exploring Addu Atoll’s unique island chains and for diving the deeper channels around Fuvahmulah. The seas are calm enough for longer liveaboard itineraries that include southern atoll routes, and local guesthouses welcome visitors with fewer crowds than central atolls. Pack sun protection and insect repellent for evening strolls ashore, and reconfirm onward transport since services are less frequent.
