Makkah Masjid in Hyderabad is a major early-modern mosque in the old city, renowned for its large prayer hall and historical significance. It is one of the principal mosques of the city and a prominent landmark near the Charminar area.

Architecturally the mosque features a large rectangular courtyard and an extensive covered prayer hall faced by broad arches and carved granite, reflecting construction phases across the 17th century. The name reflects a symbolic connection to the holy city of Mecca and the mosque was built using materials and patronage linked to the Qutb Shahi period and later Mughal-era completion.

Work on the mosque began under the Qutb Shahi sultans in the early 1600s and continued into the later 17th century when Mughal influence was present; successive rulers contributed to its construction and embellishment. The mosque has remained a functioning religious site since its completion and continues to host congregational prayers.

Makkah Masjid stands in Hyderabad’s historic core in Telangana, close to the Charminar and other old-city landmarks, and is accessed from the surrounding narrow streets of the old bazaar district.
