Set in Zambezia Province on Mozambique’s coast, Maganja draws travelers who want a low-key seaside experience rooted in local life. Mudflats, mangrove-lined creeks and fishing dhows frame lively markets where fresh prawns and peri‑peri dishes are sold alongside cashew nuts from nearby plantations. Maganja is a small, rural town - most places are reached on foot if you’re staying in the center. Short trips are usually done by motorcycle taxi or informal minibuses; fares are informal and paid in metical, so carry cash. For longer journeys you’ll rely on shared minibuses or private vehicles.
