How to Get to Alto Molocue
Alto Molocué is best reached by flying into Quelimane (closest commercial airport) or Nampula and continuing overland by intercity bus or shared minibus. Road travel times vary with seasonal road conditions, so allow extra time.
Quelimane Airport (UEL): Quelimane is the main provincial airport for Zambezia and is the closest commercial airport used for Alto Molocué. From Quelimane, road travel by taxi or shared minibus to Alto Molocué takes approximately 3-5 hours depending on road conditions; expect roughly US$15-40 for a shared minibus seat and US$60-120 for a private taxi for the full route. Nampula Airport (APL): Nampula is a larger regional hub with more connections; overland travel from Nampula to Alto Molocué is significantly longer (often 6+ hours) and is normally done by intercity bus or private transfer. Expect bus fares from Nampula toward Zambezia in the ballpark of US$20-50.
Train: Mozambique’s rail network does not provide direct passenger services to Alto Molocué; freight lines exist but are not a practical option for visitors.
