Clearer skies and cleaner beaches make travel simpler - ideal for driving, coastal visits and outdoor markets without downpours.

How to Get to Macia#
Macia is reached mainly by road from Maputo; Maputo International Airport (MPM) is the principal arrival point. Public minibuses (chapas) and intercity buses from Maputo serve Macia and nearby towns.
Maputo International Airport (MPM): Macia is most commonly reached from Maputo. From MPM you can take an intercity bus or minibus (chapas) from Maputo bus terminals; travel time is around 3.5-4.5 hours by road depending on route and traffic. Taxis or private transfers are faster but cost significantly more (several hundred meticals).
Xai-Xai Airport (VJB) / Inhambane/Beira (regional alternatives): Xai-Xai is the closest small airport for Gaza Province, but scheduled commercial services are limited. Many travellers fly into Maputo and continue overland to Macia.
Train: Mozambique’s passenger rail services are limited and irregular for this corridor; trains are not a reliable option for Macia.
Bus / chapa (minibus): Regular minibuses (chapas) and longer-distance buses run from Maputo toward Gaza Province and stop at Macia or nearby towns. Expect 3-5 hours depending on service; chapas are the cheapest option and depart when full-bring patience and small change.
How to Get Around Macia#
Road transport is the only practical way to reach and move around Macia; chapas and regional buses link the town to Maputo. For comfort and speed, hire a private transfer, otherwise use chapas and local taxis.
- Chapa (shared minibus) (MZN 200-600) - Chapás are the most common local intercity transport: frequent, cheap and flexible but can be crowded and leave only when full. They connect Maputo and provincial towns including Macia; journeys are roughly 3-5 hours depending on stops.
- Intercity coach (MZN 400-1,200) - Larger bus companies offer scheduled services with reserved seats and luggage space. Coaches are more comfortable than chapas but run less often-book in advance when possible.
- Private taxi / hired car (MZN 2,000+) - Taxis or private transfers from Maputo provide faster, door-to-door travel and are worth it for groups or early/late arrivals. Prices should be agreed beforehand and will be much higher than bus options.
- Local motorcycle taxi (MZN 20-100) - In and around Macia, motorcycle taxis (often informal) provide short local trips where roads are narrow. They are cheap and quick but carry safety risks; always agree fare first.
- Walking - Macia is a small town; many short trips can be done on foot. Streets can be hot and dusty, so plan for sun and heat.
