Lyme Park is a large country estate with a historic house and extensive parkland near Disley in Cheshire, England. It is managed by the National Trust and is notable for its house, gardens and deer park.

The core of the house dates to the 16th century and the property was altered and extended in subsequent centuries, giving it a mix of architectural styles. Over time the estate evolved from a private country seat to a publicly accessible site under National Trust care.

Situated in the Peak District fringe near the village of Disley in Cheshire, roughly to the south-east of Manchester and within easy driving distance of Stockport and surrounding towns.

• Filming location: The estate comprises extensive landscaped parkland with long walking routes, and the house was used as the exterior of Mr Darcy’s Pemberley in the 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice.

What to See#

• Lyme Hall: The main country house contains a 16th-century core with later remodelling and formal rooms that were used as the filming location for the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.
• Park and gardens: The surrounding parkland includes formal gardens and a deer park stretching across the estate that is managed for public access and walking routes.

By train: Disley station (on the Manchester Piccadilly-Hazel Grove line) is the nearest; it’s a 25-minute walk or short taxi to the main entrance. By road: from Manchester or Stockport take the A6 to Disley; postcode SK12 2NR for sat-nav. National Trust runs signposted parking at the estate.

• Use the Disley (A6) entrance if arriving by car; the main house is a short walk from the car park.
• Go for the deer park loop (west of the house) in late afternoon - deer are most active then.
• If visiting for the Pride and Prejudice connection, time the house visit - it can close earlier than park grounds.
• Bring a small picnic and a blanket; the terraced lawns on sunny days attract lawn-worshipping locals.
