Lviv Town Hall
Museum Baroque town hall at Lviv's central market
Lviv Town Hall anchors Rynok Square with a baroque tower that offers panoramic city views; tourists visit for the historic square, nearby cafes, museums and Central European architecture.
Lviv Town Hall is the municipal city hall located on Market Square (Ploshcha Rynok) in the centre of Lviv, Lviv Oblast. It serves as the seat of Lviv City Council and is a principal civic landmark of the city.
The building’s tower features an observation platform that gives panoramic views across Lviv’s UNESCO-buffered Old Town and the surrounding hills. The facade and clock tower are prominent visual anchors of the central square, and the site is a frequent stop on walking tours of the historic centre.
The site has served as Lviv’s administrative centre since the medieval period, with successive town hall buildings on the same site. The present complex retains 19th century structural elements while continuing to function for municipal government.
The town hall sits in the middle of Ploshcha Rynok in Lviv’s Old Town quarter, within walking distance of the city’s major churches and museums. It is in central Lviv, western Ukraine.
- Observation deck: Access to the tower offers the best uninterrupted view of Ploshcha Rynok and the rooftops of Lviv's Old Town; check local opening times because the building functions as the seat of the city council.
- Central location: Located directly on Market Square, so most central Old Town attractions are within a short walking distance.
What to See #
- Tower (observation platform): Houses a public observation platform near the top of the tower that provides panoramic views across Lviv's Old Town and surrounding hills; access is subject to opening hours and occasional restrictions when council business is in session.
- Main building: Contains the municipal offices and council chamber for Lviv city administration, with a historic facade facing the central Market Square.
How to Get to Lviv Town Hall #
Lviv Town Hall sits on Ploshcha Rynok (Market Square) in the very centre of Lviv’s Old Town. It is a short walk from most central streets and squares.
From Lviv’s main railway station (Lviv Holovnyi) the square is about 2 km away - roughly a 25-30 minute walk or a 5-10 minute taxi ride; local city buses and trams also serve stops within a few minutes’ walk of Rynok Square.
Tips for Visiting Lviv Town Hall #
- Go up the Lviv Town Hall tower early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the busiest square crowds and get unobstructed panoramic views of Rynok Square and the surrounding Old Town.
- Buy your ticket at the tower entrance (opening hours change seasonally) rather than relying on unpredictable queues in the square-check current opening times beforehand so you don't arrive after the tower has closed.
- If the square is crowded, time your visit for a weekday or just after a rain shower-the tower view is the same but crowds on the square below thin markedly, making photography and orientation easier.

Late spring through early autumn (May-September) offers the best weather and accessibility, with spring/early autumn preferred for fewer crowds.
