The hill has been fortified since medieval times and was the location of a castle whose origins date to the Middle Ages; over centuries the fortress was rebuilt, damaged and partly dismantled, leaving limited structural remains today. The site later became a public park and vantage point.

How to Get to Lviv High Castle #
From Lviv city centre: walk east along Prospekt Svobody for about 25-30 minutes (roughly 2 km), or take tram 1 or 9 to the Vysokyi Zamok stop and walk up Parkova Street. There is limited vehicle access; most visitors approach on foot via the park paths. Taxi from the centre is 5-7 minutes.

- Climb just before sunrise for a quieter experience and the city bathed in gold - the eastern steps from Kopernyka Street save time and crowds.
- Enter the park from the Parkova Street (Parkova vulytsia) side to avoid the busiest tourist trundles from the city centre.
- Bring a windproof layer - the summit is exposed and the weather changes fast even in summer.
- Look for the bronze plaque marking the exact spot of the castle's historic keep; most visitors miss the small information panels scattered along the ridge.
