Ludlow Castle is a medieval ruin in the market town of Ludlow in Shropshire, England, founded in the late 11th or early 12th century. It developed into an important regional stronghold and administrative centre in the Welsh Marches.

Over several centuries the castle was expanded with stone curtain walls, towers and domestic buildings and later served as the seat of the Council of Wales and the Marches in the late medieval and Tudor periods. It fell into decline after the 17th century and much of the structure is now a managed ruin open to visitors.

The site provides examples of Norman and later medieval masonry and offers views over the River Teme and the town. Ludlow town grew beside the castle and maintains a well-preserved historic centre that is often visited together with the castle.

Geographically the castle sits on a promontory above the River Teme in south Shropshire, adjacent to Ludlow’s main streets and easily reached from regional road links to Shrewsbury and Hereford.

By road the town is served directly by the A49; nearby larger towns include Shrewsbury to the north and Hereford to the south (reach Ludlow by a roughly 30-50 km drive depending on your start point), with on-street and town-centre parking a short walk from the castle.
