How to Get to Lu Bagnu#

Lu Bagnu (north Sardinia) is best reached via Alghero airport or by rail/bus via Sassari. Regional ARST buses handle the last leg; renting a car is handy for exploring nearby coves and villages.

By Air

Alghero‑Fertilia (AHO): Alghero’s airport is the closest international airport for Lu Bagnu (about 40-50 minutes by road). Taxis from AHO to Lu Bagnu typically cost around €60-€90 and take ~40-50 minutes. There are also car‑hire desks at the airport if you prefer to drive.

Olbia Costa Smeralda (OLB): Olbia is farther (around 1.5-2 hours by car via the SS131 and SP road network). Driving from Olbia takes roughly 1.5-2 hours; buses and combined rail+bus options are available but take longer and require a connection in Sassari or other towns.

By Train & Bus

Train: Sassari is the nearest significant rail hub (Sassari station). Regional trains and local services connect Sassari with Porto Torres and other parts of Sardinia; travellers commonly take rail to Sassari then change to bus for Lu Bagnu/Castelsardo.

Bus: ARST regional buses connect Alghero, Sassari and Castelsardo; from Sassari a short bus ride brings you to Lu Bagnu. Typical bus fares on these routes are about €1.50-€4 and the bus leg from Sassari to Lu Bagnu/Castelsardo is around 20-40 minutes depending on route and stops.

How to Get Around Lu Bagnu#

Expect a mixed journey: fly into Alghero for the shortest transfer or travel by train to Sassari and continue by ARST bus. Renting a car is recommended if you want to explore coastlines and nearby towns on your own schedule.

  • Regional bus (ARST) (€1.50-€4) - ARST runs regional services linking Alghero, Sassari, Castelsardo and Lu Bagnu. Buses are the economical way to travel; expect fares of about €1.50-€4. Schedules are sparser on Sundays and public holidays so check timetables in advance.
  • Taxi (€60-€90) - Taxis are convenient for direct airport transfers or if you arrive late. From Alghero‑Fertilia a taxi to Lu Bagnu typically costs €60-€90 and takes around 40-50 minutes. Agree a price or use the official airport taxi stand.
  • Car rental (€25-€60/day) - Renting a car is the most flexible option to explore north Sardinia’s coast and inland villages. Daily rates commonly start at €25-€60; roads are generally good but some local coastal lanes are narrow. Parking in small towns can be tight in summer.
