Loch Leven Castle is a ruined 13th-century island castle in Loch Leven, Perthshire, Scotland, best known for its association with Mary, Queen of Scots who was detained there in the 16th century.

The castle was built in the 13th century as a defensive stronghold and later served as a state prison; its most famous episode is the imprisonment and escape of Mary, Queen of Scots in 1567e268. Over time the castle fell into ruin and is now preserved as a historic monument.

The ruins occupy a small island in Loch Leven, near the town of Kinross in Perth and Kinross, set within a broad freshwater loch surrounded by low agricultural land.
