Lithuania in May: Weather, Crowds & What to Expect

Baltic Coast & Curonian Spit (Klaipėda, Palanga, Nida)

Long daylight in May finally brings milder air - daytime temperatures often reach the mid-teens on the coast and beaches begin to see locals sunning on calm afternoons. Nida’s dunes are fragrant with new growth and boat excursions on the Curonian Lagoon run regularly; expect more cafes and galleries to reopen. There’s still a cool breeze most days, so a light windbreaker and an insect repellent are sensible for evening shoreline walks.

Samogitia & Northern Lowlands (Šiauliai, Telšiai, Mažeikiai)

Late May often feels summery: farmland turns green, lakes warm and outdoor events resume in town squares; the hilltops around Telšiai are excellent for panoramic cycling. Mosquitoes can begin to appear near wetlands, so repellent helps for evening walks. Accommodation is still easier to find than on the coast, and long daylight hours are ideal for multi-stop driving itineraries.
