Baltic Coast & Curonian Spit (Klaipėda, Palanga, Nida)
June sees the coast coming alive: sea temperatures are still cool but sunny days can climb into comfortable warmth, drawing families to Palanga’s beaches and Klaipėda’s promenades. Joninės (St. John’s midsummer festivities) on June 23-24 is a major local event with bonfires and folk music - crowded if you want to join. Bring swimwear for sunny spells but a cardigan for evenings; wind can make dusk feel several degrees colder than inland.
Samogitia & Northern Lowlands (Šiauliai, Telšiai, Mažeikiai)
June brings reliably warm weather with plenty of daylight; festivals and local markets pop up, and lakes near Mažeikiai attract swimmers on warm days. Forest trails are excellent for hiking, but expect midges at dawn and dusk in wooded or marshy areas. Pack light summer clothes plus a sweater for evenings; if you want quieter touring, visit weekday mornings before local families arrive at beaches.
Central Lithuania & Kaunas Region (Kaunas, Kėdainiai, Nemunas valley)
June is reliably pleasant with warm, long days ideal for kayaking on the Nemunas and biking between small towns; flora is lush and park terraces flourish. Expect increased domestic tourism - weekend traffic to lakes and river beaches rises - but weekdays are still calm. Bring sun protection and comfortable walking shoes; cultural events and open-air concerts in Kaunas make it a sociable month to visit.
Aukštaitija & Vilnius Upland (Vilnius, Trakai, Anykščiai, Zarasai)
June sees warm, long days ideal for hiking, biking and boating on Aukštaitija’s clear lakes; any remaining spring chill is usually gone. Joninės (midsummer) festivities in late June are popular and crowded in Vilnius and rural areas, with bonfires and traditional music attracting locals and visitors. For outdoor adventures bring sun protection, insect repellent and a light jacket for cooler evenings by the water.
Dzūkija & Southern Spa Country (Druskininkai, Varėna, Merkinė)
June brings warm days ideal for exploring regional parks such as Dzukija National Park and river excursions; long daylight makes it possible to combine hikes with evening spa sessions. Midges and mosquitoes increase near bogs and marshes, so repellent is necessary for dusk walks. Expect comfortable temperatures for walking and cycling, and book guesthouses early for weekend stays if you want lakeside cabins.
