Coastal Lowlands (Monrovia & Atlantic Coast)

February continues the dry-season rhythm with warm, sunny days and lower humidity than later in the year; afternoons in Buchanan or the waterfront in Monrovia reach around 30°C while evenings drop only a little. This is a sensible month for boat trips and coastal drives because the surf is calmer and dirt roads are firm. Pack sun protection and insect repellent - mosquitoes are present but less intense than after the rains.

Southeast Rainforest & Riverine Lowlands (Harper, Zwedru, Grand Gedeh)

February stays warm and sunny with the forest canopy offering necessary relief from afternoon sun; local villages are busy preparing palm oil and fishing. This is a good month for visiting community projects near Zwedru and taking river trips, since muddy trails are less of a problem and accommodation is more reliably reachable. Pack waterproof shoe covers for occasional muddy patches and a head net for evenings.

Central Rolling Hills & Cocoa Country (Bong, Gbarnga, Kakata)

February stays largely dry with clear skies and strong sun; the central plateau is a sensible base for visiting traditional towns and the roads are in their best condition before rains. Expect fewer tourists and easier transport connections to Monrovia.

February remains one of the best months for exploring the highlands: clear skies, low humidity and good visibility across cross-border panoramas to Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire. Wildflowers and grassland are easy to wander and local markets bustle with produce; these months also avoid the worst of the dust because the Harmattan is often light. Comfortable hiking shoes and sun protection are sufficient for most day trips.
