Lake Rweru is a shallow freshwater lake that lies on the border between southeastern Rwanda and northern Burundi.
The lake and its surrounding wetlands support local fisheries and rural settlements and form part of the regional drainage system that contributes to larger river networks in the area.
Situated inland from Lake Tanganyika, the lake occupies low-lying terrain on the Rwanda-Burundi frontier and is used primarily by adjacent communities for fishing and small-scale agriculture.
