Lake Mogan

Lake Mogan (Gölbaşı Mogan Gölü) is a shallow lake in Ankara Province, Turkey, located south of the city of Ankara and used as a local recreational area. It is one of the nearest lakes to Turkey’s capital and is frequented by residents for leisure activities.

The lake’s shoreline includes parks, picnic areas and a short promenade that provide walking and birdwatching opportunities; boating and small-scale fishing are common recreational uses. The area functions mainly as a city-adjacent green space rather than a remote wilderness.

Historically the lake has been part of the local landscape used for agriculture and water supply, with recreational development increasing as Ankara expanded. Management focuses on balancing recreation, water quality and habitat values.

Geographically the lake sits a short distance south of central Ankara on the Ankara Plain and is reachable by road from the city; it is set within the lowland plain that surrounds the capital.
