Kocatepe Mosque Mosque

Kocatepe Mosque is a major mosque in Ankara, Turkey, notable for its large scale and prominence in the city skyline. Construction began in the late 1960s and the building was completed in the 1980s.

The mosque complex includes a large central prayer hall and multiple minarets and is used for regular daily prayers as well as large congregations on Fridays and during religious festivals. Its architectural form draws on classical Ottoman mosque design with a prominent central dome.

The site was developed to provide a principal place of worship in Turkey’s capital and has become one of Ankara’s most recognised religious buildings.

Kocatepe sits in the central Ankara area on a hill that makes it visible across much of the city and is accessible from central transport routes.
