Kuwait City & Coastal Plain (Salmiya, Sharq, Al Kout)
February brings the highest chance of a heavy winter shower across Kuwait City, and February-March is the seasonal peak for rainfall; short, sharp storms can drench coastal roads and fill drainage canals. Daytime temperatures climb into the high teens or low twenties, while nights remain cool; city cafes fill with locals after rainy afternoons. Expect some windy days, so a windproof layer and non-slip shoes are sensible if you plan to walk Al Shaheed Park or take a harbour boat to Failaka.
Northern Desert & Jahra Plain (Jahra, Mutla Ridge, northern farms)
February is the most active month for winter storms inland - short-lived but sometimes heavy showers will green the desert plains and fill irrigation channels around Jahra. Daytime temperatures are comfortable in the high teens to low 20s°C, making it a fine month for visiting Kuwait’s desert oases and the Jahra Pools Reserve. Mornings are crisp and visibility is usually excellent after rain; pack waterproof outerwear for sudden showers.
Southern Desert & Oilfields (Al Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah, Wafra)
February often brings the warmest winter days inland, with comfortable sunshine and the main chance of seasonal rain that can make rural maintenance roads muddy around Wafra and the border farms. Daytime conditions are great for visiting the Kuwait Oil Company viewing points or birdwatching near seasonal channels; nights remain cool. Travellers should be mindful that rain can briefly affect unsealed roads leading to rural sites.
Islands & Gulf Waters (Failaka, Bubiyan, Kubbar, Umm al-Maradim environs)
February often has the best chance of a showery spell at sea; strong squalls make vessels cautious and small-boat routes to Kubbar and Umm al-Maradim may be suspended. On fair days the winter light is excellent for island archaeology at Failaka and for birdwatching around Bubiyan’s mudflats. Water temperatures are cool, so swimming isn’t comfortable and wetsuits are rarely used - plan sea trips with flexible timing.
