Kuwait City & Coastal Plain (Salmiya, Sharq, Al Kout)
August continues the peak of summer - brutal daytime heat and sticky nights in Kuwait City with temperatures often in the high 30s, occasionally higher during heatwaves. The Gulf water is at its warmest, so early-morning boat trips are pleasant but afternoons are slimy-hot and oppressive; many Kuwaitis and visitors retreat to malls and seaside resorts. Heat-related disruptions to travel are uncommon but expect sleepy daytime streets and very limited outdoor sightseeing possibilities.
Northern Desert & Jahra Plain (Jahra, Mutla Ridge, northern farms)
August remains fiercely hot and dry: the landscape is parched and daytime conditions are brutal with strong sunlight and warm nights. Travel is feasible only in early morning and late evening; plan logistics carefully and rely on air-conditioned transport. For off-road trips expect equipment to overheat, and never attempt remote desert travel without extra fuel, water and a satellite or reliable communication method.
Southern Desert & Oilfields (Al Ahmadi, Mina Abdullah, Wafra)
August remains relentlessly hot and arid in the south, with little nighttime relief and regular dust events from the shamal; travel across rural roads can be slowed by blowing sand. Sea breezes are weaker here than further north, so the coast provides less respite from heat - swimming is possible but offshore waters are warm. Plan any field visits for early morning and have contingency plans for rising temperatures or windy days.
Islands & Gulf Waters (Failaka, Bubiyan, Kubbar, Umm al-Maradim environs)
August remains the peak of maritime heat: long, sultry nights and hot, humid days make island exploration uncomfortable for much of the daytime. Wind patterns continue to cause choppy conditions that discourage casual day trips; when the water is calm, snorkeling is pleasant but life on small islands feels very hot. Bring plenty of water, sun protection and accept that plans are weather-dependent.
