How to Get to Koper
Koper is best reached by road or bus from Ljubljana or Trieste; the town has limited rail access so most visitors use bus connections from Divača or direct intercity buses. Trieste is the nearest international airport.
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU): Ljubljana is the main airport for reaching Koper; the drive takes around 1.5-2 hours. Shuttle buses and private transfers from LJU to Koper are available - expect fares of roughly €8-20 for shared shuttles or more for private transfers.
Trieste - Friuli Venezia Giulia (TRS): Trieste airport is very convenient for Koper (≈30-50 minutes by road). Regular cross‑border buses and private transfers operate between Trieste and Koper with typical fares in the €5-15 range.
Train: There is no direct passenger rail line into Koper; the nearest mainline station is Divača on the Ljubljana-Koper corridor. From Divača a regular bus connects to Koper in about 30-40 minutes (≈€3-6).
Bus: Direct buses run from Ljubljana to Koper (≈1.5-2 hours) and from Trieste to Koper. Bus services are frequent and generally the most convenient public transport option for reaching the port city.
