Kau Sai Chau is an island off the Sai Kung Peninsula in Hong Kong’s New Territories, used primarily for recreation. It is reachable by ferry from Sai Kung and is known locally for outdoor activities rather than as a historic or natural reserve.

Facilities on the island include a well-known public golf facility and a set of short coastal trails with small sandy bays used for swimming and picnics. The island’s terrain is typical of Sai Kung - low hills, rocky shores and scrub vegetation - suitable for day visits.

Historically the island has been used for local recreation and sports development; there is no large permanent settlement. Management and facilities are provided to serve residents and visitors from Sai Kung and the wider Hong Kong area.

Kau Sai Chau lies a short boat trip east of Sai Kung town in Hong Kong’s eastern waters, within clear view of the Sai Kung coastline. The island is low-lying and accessible only by water transport.

Kau Sai Chau is served by small passenger ferries (kai-to) from Sai Kung Public Pier; the boat ride to the island takes about 10-15 minutes. To reach Sai Kung town, take the MTR Tseung Kwan O line to Hang Hau and then a local bus or taxi to Sai Kung, or drive from Kowloon/NT via Clear Water Bay Road/Sai Kung Road (about 30-45 minutes depending on traffic). From the Sai Kung pier there is a short walk onto the island’s landing point.

• Catch the public ferry from Sai Kung Public Pier and aim for the first or early crossings-arriving early avoids the weekend day-tripper rush and the midday heat on the island.
• Most visitors stick to the public golf course; explore the marked coastal paths and small bays instead for quieter shoreline views and better wildlife watching away from the tees.
• Check ferry departure times and any golf-course booking requirements before you go-services to the island are limited outside peak hours, so planning prevents long waits or missed return crossings.
