By Air

Kamuzu International Airport (LLW): Kamuzu International in Lilongwe is the main gateway for central Malawi. Chileka International Airport (BLZ): Chileka (near Blantyre) is farther south and used mainly by travellers coming from the south. If arriving here you can take an internal flight to Lilongwe (limited) or travel overland: buses and shared minibuses (matola/dala-dala) run between Blantyre and Lilongwe; add a Lilongwe-Kasungu minibus connection. Expect full travel time 6-8+ hours door-to-door and variable cumulative fares (minibuses are the cheapest option).

Minibuses run from Lilongwe central bus station to Kasungu and take about 1.5-2 hours; fares are low (typically a few hundred to a few thousand MWK depending on vehicle and seat class). For schedules, arrive at Lilongwe bus station and ask local operators. Private coaches and charter taxis are available for faster, more comfortable transfers at higher cost.
