How to Get to Kaédi

Kaédi is reached primarily by overland travel from Nouakchott or by occasional charter flights to its local airstrip. Expect long road journeys and limited scheduled services; plan transfers carefully and allow time for variable road conditions.

By Air

Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport (NKC): International flights to Mauritania arrive at Nouakchott; from there you must travel overland to Kaédi. The road transfer from Nouakchott to Kaédi is long (roughly 7-10 hours by road depending on conditions) and is usually done by private transfer, hired 4x4 or intercity bus.

Kaédi airstrip (local / charter): Kaédi has a local airstrip used for occasional charter and government flights rather than regular commercial service. If a charter is available it will be the quickest option to reach the town, with onward local taxi transfers for short distances.

By Train & Bus

Train: Mauritania has very limited passenger rail services concentrated on mining corridors and does not offer passenger rail to Kaédi.

Bus / Road transport: Overland travel is the standard approach: intercity buses or shared taxis connect Nouakchott and Kaédi and other regional towns. Journey times are long (many hours) and road conditions can be variable - choose reliable operators and allow extra time for desert routes.

How to Get Around Kaédi #

Kaédi is compact enough for much of the centre to be explored on foot. For longer trips within Mauritania, shared taxis and bush taxis are the normal options; formal bus services are limited.
