The airport is organised with distinct areas for domestic and international flights rather than a single unified concourse; this means check‑in and gates for domestic carriers are handled in a different section from many international services. Facilities such as check‑in counters, security and immigration are concentrated in the main international terminal, while domestic passengers use the domestic terminal and apron stands.

The airport is relatively close to central Dar es Salaam - road transfer times to the city centre are typically 20-40 minutes depending on traffic. Options:

• Taxis & private transfers: Available from the official desk in arrivals; negotiate or use the desk for set fares.
• Ride‑hailing: Apps such as Bolt operate in Dar es Salaam and are commonly used for airport trips.
• Buses / minibuses: Local minibuses (dala‑dala) serve routes into the city; these are cheap but not convenient with large luggage.
• Car hire / driving: Car rental desks are available; allow extra time during peak traffic.

Terminal facilities include cafés and basic retail on both landside and airside. Currency exchange and ATMs are available in the arrivals area. A limited number of airline and pay‑per‑use lounges operate for eligible passengers. SIM card and mobile top‑up kiosks are present in arrivals. Assistance for passengers with reduced mobility is available but should be arranged in advance through your airline.
