Best Time to Visit Jerash#
Jerash is best in spring or autumn when temperatures are mild and the ruins are comfortable to explore; spring also brings wildflowers. Summers are extremely hot and winters cool and rainy, so timing matters for comfort.

How to Get to Jerash#
Jerash is an easy day trip from Amman - fly into Queen Alia (AMM) then take a bus or shared taxi from Amman north to Jerash. Shared taxis are faster; regular buses are cheaper.
Queen Alia International Airport (AMM): Amman’s main international airport and the primary entry point for visiting Jerash. From AMM you can take a taxi to Amman (≈20-40 JOD, 30-60 minutes) and then a bus or shared taxi to Jerash; total travel time is usually 1-1.5 hours from Amman centre to Jerash by road.
Amman Civil Airport (Marka) (ADJ): A smaller airport serving regional traffic and some low-cost carriers/charters. Ground options are similar - taxi into Amman then onward buses or shared taxis to Jerash; services are less frequent than from Queen Alia.
Train: Jordan does not have an extensive passenger rail network connecting Amman and Jerash; there is no regular train service for this route.
Bus / Shared Taxi: Public buses and shared taxis run from Amman to Jerash. Buses depart from northern Amman bus terminals and from areas such as the Abdali/Tabarbour stations; shared taxis leave from the northern taxi ranks. Expect fares of roughly 1-3 JOD for local buses and higher for shared taxis; travel time from Amman centre is about 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic.
How to Get Around Jerash#
The simplest way to reach Jerash is by road from Amman - shared taxis for speed, public buses for economy, and private taxis or tours for convenience. Once at the ruins, you’ll explore on foot.
- Public Bus (1-3 JOD) - Public buses run from Amman to Jerash from northern bus terminals and certain city stops. They are the cheapest option (cash fares are low) but can be slower and less frequent than shared taxis; keep small change ready.
- Shared Taxi (Service Taxi) (3-6 JOD) - Shared taxis depart from designated ranks in Amman and head to Jerash more frequently than scheduled buses. They are faster and will drop you closer to the archaeological site; expect to pay more than the bus but still affordable.
- Private Taxi / Driver (15-30 JOD) - Hiring a private taxi from Amman or the airport gives door-to-door convenience and is the simplest option for groups or early departures. Negotiate a return fare or use a metered service where available.
- Tour Bus / Coach (15-40 JOD) - Many tour operators in Amman run half- or full-day trips to Jerash combined with other sites; these include transport and often a guide. Good choice if you prefer an organized itinerary.
- Car hire (JD20-JD40/day) - Renting a car offers full flexibility to visit Jerash and surrounding sites; roads are in good condition and signage is reasonable. Parking at the site is straightforward, but driving in Amman can be congested.
- Walking - Jerash’s Roman ruins complex is extensive but largely pedestrianised; comfortable walking shoes are essential for exploring the archaeological site.

Shopping in Jerash is limited-souvenir stalls near the ruins and small local shops sell handicrafts, textiles and snacks. For more extensive shopping choices, use Amman’s markets and malls.
Nightlife in Jerash#
Jerash has limited after-dark options; evenings are mostly about restaurants and cafés near the site. In summer the Jerash Festival brings concerts and performances to the ancient arena, providing seasonal nightlife highlights.
