How to Get to Japeri#
Japeri is part of the Rio de Janeiro commuter rail network (SuperVia). The easiest public route is by SuperVia train from Central do Brasil after arriving into Rio’s airports (GIG or SDU).
Rio de Janeiro-Galeão-Antonio Carlos Jobim International Airport (GIG): The main international airport for the Rio de Janeiro region. From GIG you can transfer by taxi or ride-hail to central Rio and then use SuperVia commuter trains toward Japeri; overall travel time is typically 1.5-2.5 hours depending on connections. Taxi direct to Japeri is possible but will be long and costly.
Santos Dumont Airport (SDU): Closer to central Rio but with fewer domestic routes; use city transport to reach Central do Brasil and then take SuperVia trains to Japeri (see train card).
Train: Japeri is a terminus/major stop on SuperVia’s commuter rail network (Deodoro/Japeri lines). Trains run from Central do Brasil to Japeri; travel time from Central do Brasil is typically around 90-120 minutes depending on service; SuperVia fares are fixed-check current fare information before travel.
Bus: Intermunicipal and municipal buses connect Japeri with nearby towns and with bus terminals in Rio. Buses and vans are useful for local transfers not served by rail.
How to Get Around Japeri#
For most travellers SuperVia commuter trains from central Rio are the best balance of cost and reliability for getting to Japeri. Use buses or taxis for short local journeys or where train options are limited.
- SuperVia commuter train (≈R$4-6) - The commuter train network is the most practical public option into Japeri from central Rio. Trains can be crowded at peak times; check timetables and platform information at Central do Brasil for direct services to Japeri.
- Intercity / municipal buses (R$3-12) - Buses and micro-ônibus (vans) provide connections to neighbouring municipalities and complement the rail network. They can be useful for short hops or routes not served by trains.
- Taxi / Ride-hail (R$50-250) - Taxis or app-based services are convenient for airport transfers or night travel; expect higher costs than rail but door-to-door service. Confirm pricing for longer inter-municipal trips before departing.
- Motorbike taxi / local moto-taxis (R$5-30) - In some neighbourhoods short trips are done by motorcycle taxis for quick transfers; these are fast but less formal-check safety practices and local rules.
- Walking - Japeri’s central areas and markets are walkable; combine walking with SuperVia and local buses for best value.
