Istana Bogor is a presidential palace in the city of Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, originally constructed during the Dutch colonial era as a country residence. It stands on extensive grounds noted for mature tropical plantings and proximity to major botanical gardens.

The palace complex includes the main official residence and large, landscaped grounds with formal gardens, specimen trees and ornamental features. The adjacent Bogor Botanical Gardens provide public access to an extensive collection of tropical and subtropical plants.

Constructed in the mid-18th century as a colonial governor’s residence, the site later became a presidential palace after Indonesian independence and has been used by successive heads of state for official functions and as a summer retreat. The grounds and buildings reflect layers of colonial and republican-era modification.

Istana Bogor stands in central Bogor city in West Java, about an hour by road from Jakarta depending on traffic, and directly adjoins the Bogor Botanical Gardens.

  • Colonial origin: The palace dates to the Dutch colonial period and was originally built as a summer residence known historically as Buitenzorg.
  • Gardens adjacency: The grounds adjoin the Bogor Botanical Gardens, one of the oldest botanical institutions in the region, with the combined site notable for mature tropical plantings.
