Ismoil Somoni Peak is a major mountain summit in the Pamir range of eastern Tajikistan with an elevation of 7,495 metres. It is the highest point in Tajikistan and the tallest peak in the Pamir Mountains.
The peak is a high-altitude mountaineering objective with steep glaciated slopes and technical routes used by expedition teams; approaches typically involve long glacier travel and acclimatization. It dominates the local skyline and is a focal point for serious alpine expeditions rather than casual trekking.
The mountain was long known under Soviet-era names and was renamed to honour the medieval Samanid ruler Ismail Somoni. Its role has shifted from a geographic landmark during the Soviet period to a national symbol of Tajikistan in the post-Soviet era.
Geographically the peak lies in the central Pamirs within Tajikistan’s high mountain interior, forming part of the high ranges often referred to as the Academy of Sciences Range.
