How to Get to Ierapetra#
Ierapetra on Crete’s south coast is reached by road from Heraklion or Sitia airports; Crete has no train network. KTEL intercity buses and rental cars are the practical choices for getting here and moving around the region.
Heraklion International Airport (HER): The main airport for most international visitors to Ierapetra. From Heraklion take a KTEL bus to Ierapetra (journey ~1.5-2.5 hrs depending on stops; fare typically €8-12) or rent a car for a faster drive (~1.5-2 hrs).
Sitia Airport (JSH): Smaller regional airport on eastern Crete with limited domestic flights; Sitia is closer (drive ~60-90 min to Ierapetra), but scheduled services are limited - check seasonal availability.
Train: There are no train services on Crete.
Bus (KTEL Lasithi): KTEL operates regular buses between Heraklion, Sitia and Ierapetra. From Heraklion the direct bus takes around 1.5-2.5 hours depending on route and stops; fares are around €8-12. Buses are the standard public-transport option on Crete for intercity travel along the coast.
