How to Get to Hulhumalé#
Hulhumalé sits directly beside Velana International Airport (MLE) and is the easiest Maldivian arrival point if you want quick access to the capital region. Transfers are short-by taxi, local bus or short ferry ride.
Velana International Airport (MLE): Hulhumalé is adjacent to Malé’s Velana International Airport-it’s the most convenient place to arrive for quick access to the capital region. The airport is a 10-20 minute taxi or bus ride from Hulhumalé; taxis cost about MVR 100-200 (approx. USD 6-13) and take 10-20 minutes depending on traffic.
Hulhumalé Causeway / seaplane connections: Hulhumalé is connected to Malé by causeway and regular ferry/skiff services; seaplanes operate from Velana for other atolls but are not needed to access Hulhumalé itself. Inter-island transfers depart from the adjacent harbours.
Train: No train services in the Maldives.
Bus / ferry: Hulhumalé has public buses and taxis linking the reclaimed island to Malé and the airport; ferries and speedboats operate from the nearby jetties to other atolls. A public bus from Hulhumalé to the ferry terminal is inexpensive (a few MVR) and the causeway provides fast road access.
