How to Get to Felidhoo#

Felidhoo is an inhabited island in Vaavu Atoll (central Maldives) reached by boat from Malé (Velana International Airport). There is no rail transport; transfers are by scheduled public ferry (cheaper, slower) or speedboat/private transfer (faster, pricier).

By Air

Velana International Airport, Malé (MLE): Velana is the Maldives’ main international airport. To reach Felidhoo (Vaavu Atoll) from Malé you can take a scheduled public ferry or arrange a speedboat/private transfer. Public ferries are the cheapest option (see below); a speedboat transfer typically takes about 60-90 minutes and private speedboat fares to Vaavu islands commonly range from about USD 80-150 per person or higher for private charters.

Domestic airports: There is not a direct international airport on Vaavu Atoll. Some visitors use domestic flights to nearby domestic airports and then a boat transfer; availability depends on scheduled domestic routes and your resort or guesthouse’s transfer options. Always confirm transfer arrangements with your accommodation before arrival.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no train network in the Maldives.

Boat / Ferry: Public ferries connect Malé and other hubs to Vaavu Atoll islands including Felidhoo; the public ferry journey can take several hours (commonly 3-6 hours depending on route and stops) and fares are the cheapest option (often under USD 20-30). Speedboat transfers are much faster (around 1-1.5 hours) but considerably more expensive; private transfers are available from Malé or Hulhumalé and are typically arranged through guesthouses or tour operators.

How to Get Around Felidhoo#

All travel to Felidhoo is by sea after arrival in Malé: public ferries for budget travellers or speedboats/private transfers for faster, more convenient journeys. On the island itself everything is within walking distance.

  • Public ferry (Under USD 20-30) - Government-run or scheduled public ferries connect Malé with islands in Vaavu Atoll, including Felidhoo on certain days. Ferries are the cheapest option but can be slow (several hours) and run on a weekly or limited schedule - check the current timetable well in advance. Bring water and snacks for the journey.
  • Speedboat transfer (USD 80-150+) - Speedboats are the common choice for guests needing faster transfers; typical crossing times to Vaavu Atoll are roughly 60-90 minutes depending on sea conditions. Prices vary by operator but expect roughly USD 80-150 per person for scheduled speedboat transfers; private charters cost more.
  • Domestic flight + boat (Varies (operator-dependent)) - Some routes can be combined with a domestic flight to a nearby regional airport followed by a short boat transfer, depending on scheduled flights and availability. This option is less common for Vaavu and must be arranged in advance with carriers and your accommodation.
  • Private charter (USD 150-400+) - For flexibility, private speedboat charters can be arranged from Malé or Hulhulé; these are the most expensive option but let you set departure times and routes. Useful if you arrive outside ferry schedules or are traveling with a group and luggage.
  • Walking - Felidhoo is a small island where you can walk between the harbour, guesthouses and local shops in minutes. Walking is the main way to get around; bring sun protection as shade is limited in places.
