Hat Kamala
Beach
Kamala Beach on Phuket’s west coast occupies a sheltered bay with a slower pace than Patong; visitors swim, dine on seafood and attend occasional night markets.
Hat Kamala is the sandy bay known as Kamala Beach on the west coast of Phuket Island in southern Thailand. It is a purpose-built resort strip centered on the small town of Kamala and is a well-established family-friendly beach area.
The beach offers a broad sandy shoreline with shallow water suitable for swimming and sunbathing and a stretch of local shops, restaurants, and resort hotels along the sand. The nearby Phuket FantaSea complex is a prominent evening entertainment venue in the area.
Originally a coastal fishing village, the area developed into a tourist resort during the late 20th century with hotels and services aimed at visitors to Phuket. Development has concentrated along the beachfront while the hinterland remains less built up than busier parts of the island.
Hat Kamala sits on Phuket’s west coast between the busier resort areas to the north and south, fronting the Andaman Sea. The town and beach are accessed by road from the rest of Phuket and serve as a quieter alternative to larger nearby beaches.
- Nearby attraction: The nearby Phuket FantaSea cultural theme park sits close to the beach and operates evening shows and dining, making Kamala a convenient base for that attraction.
- Best time to visit: Best season for calm seas and swimming is the dry season, roughly November through April.
Tips for Visiting Hat Kamala #
- Arrive in the early morning on weekdays to enjoy calmer water and a quieter shoreline before weekend crowds build.
- Access Kamala Beach from the main beachfront road and walk toward the northern end for a noticeably more peaceful stretch away from the busier hotel hub.
- If you want a less touristy meal selection, skip the central promenade and head to the smaller side roads off the main strip where local seaside restaurants cluster.
Best Time to Visit Hat Kamala #
Visit Kamala Beach in the dry season (November-April) for the most reliable sun and calm sea conditions; expect lower visitor levels in the monsoon months.
